That New Tree Smell...

I was thinking today just how much I love the smell of my tree. Okay, it's not really my tree that is smelling like a pine forest (it smells like plastic and artificial snow), it is my Glade Plug-in. When Lou and I got married, we lived with my Mom and Dad who had our traditional real cut tree. After about a week we realized that the reason Lou was having allergy problems was the tree. Ugh. One of my favorite parts of Christmas is the smell of the tree in the house during the days when the only smell out side is of crisp air and wood smoke. What is a girl to do? Well, my parents invested in a really nice artificial tree to use the next year and I knew that was the only way I would have a tree in my own home. So when I bought and put up my artificial tree I was somewhat depressed. No smell. :o( Then one day I found some Glade Plug-ins in Forest Pine. Christmas was saved! LOL! Since then I have used the Plug-in behind my tree in various scents of the season; pine, winterberry... Glistening Snow was the latest model. It has kept me in the holiday spirit and my guys (who are all pine sensitive) from an itchy, watery eyed Christmas. I recently had a problem with my new package of Plug-ins and called the 800 number listed on the package. I now have a coupon for a FREE package of refills. Guess what scent I'm buying?

Today was errand day and I lucked out several times over. This Christmas issue of Country Home magazine was just waiting for me in the library sale room. In case you haven't heard - and happen to care - they have stopped publication of this magazine. It was my favorite!

I also found this little gem! A British home magazine - absolutely fabulous, darling!

My favorite find of the day was this sugar shaker. A year of so ago I decided that I needed carpet deodorizer that was free of chemicals and safe for my kids and pets. A quick Google search set me up with several recipes for the stuff - the easiest of which is simply baking powder and a few drops of scented oil. The last batch was made and kept in a throw away container, but I am on the look out for a few more jars like this that I so I can make batches for my friends that will sprinkle out more nicely than that. So if you see any at a yard sale or in a thrift store, pick them up for me!
