CRV and Kitchen Results

The kitchen is ALMOST finished, but I couldn't resist posting a couple of pictures. The only thing left to finish is the crown molding at the top of the cabinets.

We had our HUGE deck area pressure washed yesterday and it is looking awesome. My plans for tomorrow are to seal it up so it stays beautiful for the showings. I also need to work on G's room. More to come...

Today we celebrated Austin's 12th birthday with a trip to High Falls and Cherokee Rock Village. I can't say enough about the location, weather or company. If you have never been there, you have really missed out!

Beadboard Wallpaper Backsplash

So here is another piece of the puzzle; the backsplash is finally up! In the before picture you can see, not only ALL the junk in my kitchen, but the faux tile backsplash that was up before. That stuff REALLY wanted to stay up there!

After much spraying and scraping I finally removed all the old wallpaper and put up this:

I really love how it turned out! The wallpaper is less forgiving than the tile kind had been. It is a softer vinyl with more give and the strait lines don't help hide any imperfections in the wall behind. There are just a couple of spots where the old owners had once nailed things in the wall using railroad stakes and since the holes didn't show up before I figured it was okay this time. Not so much. Good news is that you can BARELY see them, unless you are me and knitpicking everything to death.

Lou and I also finished up the cabinets and woodwork in bright white paint and the dings and spots on the walls have been filled and will be ready to paint next week. Including the really nasty spot above the beadboard in the above picture. That spot is giving me the perfectionist willies. ~shudder~ I also have some half round that will be cut to fit there, but not until after. So much to do, so little time! Four more weeks!

What a Mess

Remodeling takes two steps forward and one back. This week was two forward (the doors got their second coat of paint and they were put back on the cabinets) and one back in the form of this...

Eww. I HATE the old wallpaper from when we moved in. Okay, honestly that isn't the one that was up. See that TINY strip of beige with rust stripes and blue hearts? Yeah, that and a Holly Hobbyesque border were what I stripped to find that beautiful blue paper glued permanently on the dry wall. Thus my love affair with textured wallpaper began. I have a Venetian plaster finish in most of the kitchen and, until yesterday, I had a faux tile on the backsplash. After over an hour of scraping and peeling I had THAT wallpaper back again. So what is the big plan?

That my friends it FAUX beadboard! I'm in love. Beadboard without the men. I can cut this, wet this and hang this all by my little lonesome. So when I get that up my kitchen will be nearly complete. Just new hardware and one island to go.

Part of me is sad that I'm finishing this just in time to leave. Sigh. At least what is left of the beadboard is moving with me...
